Kayaking-

New for 2008!

Each team chooses two teammates who will kayak together in a two-person kayak approximately one quarter mile along a designated water route. Instructions for the kayaking discipline will be handed to each team immediately before they begin kayaking. The route and any other special instructions must be followed exactly as indicated or the team faces disqualification. Race officials will monitor racers' progress. After successfully completing the event, teams will be allowed to validate their passport and proceed to the next discipline.

Every kayaking racer must furnish and wear an approved life vest while kayaking. Wearing a kayak helmet is optional. No team will be allowed to kayak without the required equipment. Kayaking equipment is allowed to be staged near the kayaking discipline in advance of the race.

A limited number of kayaks and paddles will be available, but teams are strongly encouraged to furnish their own kayak and paddles. Teams must use standard kayaking paddles.

Both Long Course and Short Course racers compete in the kayaking event. For 2-person and 3-person teams, only one kayak per team is allowed in the water. Solo racers will compete in single-person kayaks.

There will be one or more check points throughout the kayaking event. Life guards may be present along the route. Life jackets must be worn at all times. Each racer must have a paddle with them for the entire journey. Race officials are not responsible for the theft or loss of any items.

Kayaking Time Allotment-
Any team that does not finish within the designated time may be transferred to the next discipline of the race and will forfeit their opportunity to qualify as a contender for any prizes. They will not be allowed to move in front of a contending team at this point of the race. The Race Committee has the right to change the cutoff times. Race participants should check this website periodically to receive the latest information on the race.

Transition area-
Your support team (no more than two) may hand you any new equipment, change of clothes, water, food, or other items pertinent to allow you to complete the next discipline in accordance with general or specific race guidelines. Any garbage, or other items discarded by your team within the transition area must be quickly picked-up by your support team members.
